Category: Filipino Food / Carinderia.
Today (May 10, 2008) the wife, sister-in-law and myself decided to try a place a Filipino friend told me about a few years back. Sana's Carinderia located just off of Quezon Blvd. on J. Luna Ext. near Luz Kinilaw Place. When we walked into the place their were about 6 to 8 people eating. Everyone looked at me and were probably thinking I was lost. This is not a place where many foreigners go, if any. Everyone was very friendly and said hello.
I would have to call this place rustic at best. This Cardineria has been in business for 35 years at the same location with the same original owners. It has been handed down to the son this year. It has what is left of the original paint, three legged stools and 35 year old tables. I do not believe one pesos has been put into this place in 35 years. This is a place where every old timer taxi drivers knows about and a place I would just walk on by.
After saying all that, they have the best Carabao Soup in Davao. I have tried a few other Kabawan places in Davao and they do not even come close to the Spicy Carabao Soup and Deep Fried Tapas at Sana's.
Rating (Scale 1 to 10 with 10 being the highest):
Food: 8
Service: 9
Ambiance: 5
Recommendation: Very Good. Sana's Carinderia is not much to look at, but their food is delicious. The soup was spicy and the meat was very tender. Everyone was very friendly and the service was great. The wife looked at me and said that she needs more rice. At that very moment the lady put a big plate of rice on the table and a bowl of hot broth. It was like she could read our minds. The total price for the three of us was P333. We had three bowls of soup, four or five plates of rice, two plates of Tapas and three sodas. I think the soup was P45 a bowl, rice P7 a plate and the Tapas was P65 a plate. We are planing on going back next week.
